- This will help the henna stain your hair a darker color, and
the color will not fade or wash out.
- Some people mix henna and buxus together as is described below.
- Others
mix buxus and indigo separately as is done with indigo in
brunette kits: review the instructions for brunette kits HERE.
- Both methods give good results, but one method may work better for one person and the other better for another.
Instructions: - Mix
the henna powder and buxus powder in a glass or ceramic bowl with
dilute lemon juice, orange juice, or some other mildly acidic
liquid.
- Mix enough liquid into the henna and buxus to make a paste as thick
as mashed potatoes.
- Cover the paste with plastic wrap and let it
rest overnight at room temperature.
Stir
a mildly acidic liquid into the henna and buxus until it is about as
thick as mashed potatoes. Cover it and let it rest overnight. Mix enough liquid into the henna and buxus to make a paste as thick as mashed
potatoes. - Cover the paste with plastic wrap and let it rest overnight
at room temperature.
- Don't
worry about exact measurements. For the first 6,000 years that
women dyed their hair with plants and herbs. They didn't have thermometers or
digital scales, and their hair always came out nice.
- If
you're in a hurry, put your henna and buxus in a warm place, like a closed car
with the windows rolled up. At 100F, the paste will be ready in an
hour.
Section the hair first, especially if the hair is long. that will make things go much faster! Apply
the paste right down onto the skin. If you're just doing the
roots, the piping bag will make this go quickly and easily! Push the paste into the hair. Pull the paste through the length of the hair unless you're just doing roots.

Apply the paste thick, like cake frosting. When all the hair is completely coated with paste, wrap up the hair in saran wrap and take a nap. Section your hair into ¼ inch sections, and
secure the sections with clips. - If you section your hair before
you start, the process will go much faster!
- Add more liquid as needed
to make a paste as thick as yogurt.
Wear the gloves provided in this kit! Henna and buxus will stain your hands! Beginning at the nape of the neck, apply the
paste right down to the scalp with your fingers.- Coat every hair
thickly by stroking and pushing the paste into your hair.
- Gradually
work your way to your forehead, one section at a time.
- Use the piping bag to apply paste to
those “hard to get to” spots, or to do your roots!
When all your
hair is thickly coated with the mixture, clean off your forehead, ears,
and neck, and wrap up your hair in plastic wrap. - Leave the
mixture in your hair for two to four hours.
- Then, rinse your hair
and shampoo.
- If
your hair was white, gray, blonde, light brunette or faded red, the
henna and buxus will dye your hair a soft light ash brown.
- If your hair is darker than light ask brown, this kit will not make your hair a lighter color.
